Interview Preparation

Interview Preparation

Preparation is key to a successful interview. Being prepared not only gives you an idea about what to expect in the interview but increases the level of confidence you carry into the interview itself.

Research the company

Find out as much about the company as u can, how big it is, how its run, its history, its current situation and its future as you can. Sources: your Coyle Consultant the Internet and trade journals; friends and business associates (keep the position confidential). Be prepared to ask good questions about the company and its direction. You may also choose to look into the relevant business competition. With all this information at hand you will be able to hold a significant, conversation concerning all above aspects of the company.

Research the role

Have a thorough understanding of the position, its key duties and primary responsibilities, and what is expected. Be prepared to ask key questions such as: Who does the position report to? What needs to be accomplished in the first 6 months; or the first year? Your Coyle Consultant will be able to provide insight in these areas prior to the interview.

General

It is a good idea to research and find out what format the interview will take. Different businesses use different techniques for example, standard interviews or role plays. Whatever course the interview will take, it is best to be prepared.

Even with several days to prepare for the interview you will still not be able to predict every question. A good tactic is to approach the interview with a list of significant relevant points. Ask yourself what the key skills are that the job requires and think of examples of occasions when you have demonstrated those skills. Know your strengths and weaknesses. Be prepared to cite specific examples of accomplishments and how your specific experience can help the company solve some of its problems. Concentrate on your most recent positions, but don’t neglect your early career.

Review your career history thoroughly. Review dates, positions, duties and responsibilities, and accomplishments.

Questions you might want to ask?

Can you tell me about the company?
Can you describe the job responsibility?
What are the promotion prospects?
Is there any training schemes?
Will you be holding second interviews?
