Job Description

We are looking to supply London Underground platelayers/trackmen to one of our biggest rail clients in London!

The successful applicants would be working as part of a gang that consists of a foreman and five platelayers. Coyle Rail, a leading rail recruitment agency, are actively seeking an LU Plate Laying Gang and platelaying individuals for ongoing track work on the London Underground. The work is scheduled to commence asap and will provide an opportunity to contribute to the efficient operation and maintenance of the London Underground network.

We are also looking for experienced trackmen to upskill and put on London underground training to fulfill busy weekends with potential midweek shifts.

Although the work is ongoing please note it is part time and shifts may vary each week.

Platelayers - From £16 midweek and £17 weeekends per shifts. Please note we are unable to pay through a limited or CIS company. PAYE ONLY.


  • Working as part of a gang, carrying out various track maintenance tasks on the London Underground network.
  • Undertaking Pway (Permanent Way) work, including track inspections, repairs, and renewals.
  • Operating small tools, both battery and petrol-powered, such as the ironman and LU Track Trolley.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations and adhering to all relevant procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborating with the Foreman to allocate tasks, monitor progress, and maintain high-quality standards.
  • Assisting in the training and development of junior gang members.


  • Previous Pway experience within the rail industry is required, however London underground experience is not essential.
  • Possession of small tools, including the ironman and LU Track Trolley, is necessary is not essential.
  • Valid LU tickets, such as BTA (Basic Track Awareness) and WSI (Worksite Safety for Individuals), are required.
  • A London Underground medical certificate is essential 
  • Valid driving license and access to own transport are essential.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Flexibility to work days and night shifts during the hours when the tubes stop.
  • Be avaialble weekends.

Desirable Skills:

  • Additional track maintenance certifications and qualifications would be advantageous.
  • Familiarity with London Underground track layouts and infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulations, including the Track Safety Handbook and Network Rail standards.

Working Hours and Benefits:

  • Shifts will typically be around engineering hours (22:00-06:00) .
  • Minimum 8 hour shifts midweek and 8-10 hours weekend
