Health and Safety Manager – Civils/Groundworks

Coyle Personnel is currently looking for an experienced Health and Safety manager for leading groundworks and civil engineering contractor based in the Essex, with projects in the Essex and surrounding areas. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role.

The Health and Safety Manager role will entail; Evaluating practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law. As well as developing and executing health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines and preparing and enforcing policies to ensure company-wide that there is a strong culture of health and safety in all aspects. Current projects are based in and around the Essex areas, where you will be responsible for establishing policies that will create and maintain a safe workplace. You will have excellent attention to detail, identifying potential hazards and discovering opportunities for improving conditions on-site. All the time ensuring all legal expectations are met that supports occupational health and safety.


  • Inspect equipment and machinery to observe possible unsafe conditions
  • Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and handle worker’s compensation claims
  • Recommend solutions to issues, improvement opportunities or new prevention measures
  • Develop and execute health and safety plans in the workplace according to legal guidelines
  • Prepare and enforce policies to establish a culture of health and safety
  • Monitor compliance to policies and laws by inspecting employees and operations
  • Report on health and safety awareness, issues and statistics.
  • Evaluate practices, procedures and facilities to assess risk and adherence to the law
  • Conduct training and presentations for health and safety matters and accident prevention


  • Proven Experience in a similar role as a safety manager
  • Deep understanding of legal health and safety guidelines
  • Ability in producing reports and developing relevant policies
  • Outstanding attention to detail and observation ability
  • Good knowledge of data analysis and risk assessments
  • Excellent organizational and motivational skills
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities
  • Valid qualifications in occupational health and safety
  • NEBOSH or NCRQ qualified, IOSH member preferred
