Job Description

🚨 Quantity Surveyor – Rail Infrastructure (Manchester)

We’re looking for a Quantity Surveyor to join a busy rail infrastructure team in Manchester, working on one of several high-profile projects currently being delivered in the region.

This role is suited to someone with solid contractor-side experience who’s comfortable managing costs, change, and commercial reporting across complex engineering projects, while acting as a key point of contact for stakeholders.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Providing pre- and post-contract commercial support across assigned projects

  • Managing commercial activities across work packages including design, signalling installation, testing & commissioning, civils, telecoms, electrification, power and permanent way

  • Supporting project change control and working closely with delivery teams

  • Liaising with work package managers to gather progress and cost information

  • Managing budgets, forecasts and cost control for labour, materials, plant and subcontractors

  • Preparing internal and external commercial reports

  • Building strong working relationships with finance, engineering, project teams, subcontractors, suppliers and client representatives

  • Maintaining clear, auditable commercial records in line with contractual requirements

What we’re looking for:

  • Contractor-side experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Contract Administrator

  • Background in rail, construction, engineering or similar regulated industries

  • HND or Degree qualified, ideally working towards (or holding) RICS or CICES

  • Around 5 years’ experience in a project-based environment

  • Confident managing direct labour, materials, plant and subcontract costs

  • Strong skills in forecasting, change/variation assessment and cost reporting

  • Good commercial awareness with solid contractual knowledge

  • Comfortable working with limited supervision and under time or cost pressure

  • Confident communicator, able to work with stakeholders at all levels

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and producing high-quality documentation
