Job Description

We are currently recruiting a highly motivated Garage Manager with a positive can-do attitude to work closely with the Transport Manager and Transport planning department.

Excellent communication, team working skills and strong leadership qualities are essential for this role.

You will play a key part in the smooth running of transport operations ensuring all commercial vehicles are regularly maintained to a high standard and fully functioning in a timely manner.

You will motivate, inspire and lead our current team of mechanics. There will also be an aspect of covering any mechanic duties as and when required.



  • Organise the day to day tasks and workload
  • Vehicle administration
  • Record keeping
  • Monitoring and booking of MOT/ ADR/ Tank tests
  • Ordering parts, ensuring the best quality and most cost-effective
  • Lead, motivate and inspire the existing team
  • Manage warranty and vehicle recall
  • Responsible for the upkeep, maintenance and compliance of all Health and Safety matters in relation to the garage


  • Carry out all maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with Operator “O” licence requirements
  • Servicing and repairs of all vehicles to a high standard
  • Carry out 6 weekly safety inspections to DVSA standards - liaising with department Transport co-ordinators to ensure maximum vehicle availability
  • Prepare vehicles for annual MOT inspection
  • Prepare vehicles for annual ADR testing (Fuel Tankers only)
  • Diagnose faults and make necessary repairs in a timely manner to ensure maximum vehicle availability using computerised diagnostic equipment
  • Repair driver reported defects and record as actioned
  • Carry out repairs to specialised discharge equipment – Fuel Oil & LPG tankers and Bulk Blowing vehicles
  • Attend vehicle breakdowns as required
  • Complete all necessary records on the digital maintenance platform
  • General workshop duties, including maintaining housekeeping standards
  • Work and adhere to all health and safety policies and procedures

In addition to the above, the post holder will be expected to carry out any reasonable task which falls within the scope and purpose of the post.

Experience Required

  • Must have previous management experience in a similar role
  • Fully Qualified HGV mechanic (NVQ level 3 or equivalent)
  • Must have extensive knowledge of diesel, hydraulic and electrics
  • Experienced in HGV workshop environment
  • Full UK driving licence (HGV desirable)
  • ADR trained (desirable)
  • Light fabrication and welding experience (desirable)
