We have an impressive portfolio of projects throughout the UK.   A selection of our current and recent projects includes:

  • Detailed design of the diversion and river restoration of the River Eye (SSSI) as part of the Melton Mowbray Distributor Road project;
  • Detailed design and construction of restoration works on Worsley Brook, Salford to restore a mixed sediment morphology along a highly modified urban watercourse;
  • Design and construction of a pool-riffle-point bar bypass channel on the chalk fed River Beane for Affinity Water;
  • Restoration of a section of the Upper River Lee to re-establish a chalk river morphology in Luton;
  • River restoration and enhancement of floodplain connectivity on the River Cocker at Rogerscale for the West Cumbria Rivers Trust;
  • Naturalisation of the River Lyvennet at Kings Meaburn for the Eden Rivers Trust;
  • Naturalisation of Swindale Beck for RSPB, Environment Agency, Natural England and United Utilities (Winner of the ENDS Environmental Project Award 2017, Winner of the Wild Trout Trust Environment Award 2017);
  • Determination of NFM options for three tributaries to the White Cart Water for the East Renfrewshire Council, and further river restoration design work on the Levern Water;
  • Identification of NFM measures in the Trawden catchment for the Environment Agency;
  • Development of NFM and river restoration opportunities for the Coledale and Newlands Beck, Braithwaite for Natural England;
  • Restoration of the Yorkshire Derwent floodplain for the Environment Agency to provide important fisheries habitat;
  • Creation of floodplain wetland on the River Yarrow for the Environment Agency;
  • Re-meandering of the River Beane at Woodhall Estate for Affinity Water; and

Job Responsibilities:
The appropriate level of technical expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • Working with staff at Graduate, Senior and Consultant levels to oversee and guide their technical work, especially modelling.  
  • Working with a range of internal to develop holistic project solutions;
  • Contributing to WFD assessments and environmental impact assessments, guiding new infrastructure developments to the best environmental outcomes;
  • Consulting with statutory regulators where required, particularly the Environment Agency and Natural England;
  • Maintaining excellent client relationships;
  • Helping the Hydromorphology Team Leader to identify new internal and external clients/opportunities;
  • Helping the Hydromorphology Team Leader to recruit talented individuals to grow the team, as required; 
  • Experience of preparing high quality project and framework tenders;
  • Day to day project management;
  • Working with the clients safety systems and preparing/reviewing risk assessments for field work; and
  • Ensuring projects are managed in line with the clients Integrated Management System (IMS). 

Minimum Requirements    Essential:

  • Extensive experience in implementing 1D and 2D hydraulic modelling (including ISIS and TuFlow) for fluvial studies including model build and quality assurance, troubleshooting, baseline and scenario modelling etc.;
  • Experience in sediment transport modelling for fluvial studies;
  • Extensive experience in the interpretation of model results for design functionality/sustainability, erosion and deposition dynamics, flood risk etc.;  
  • Excellent knowledge and practice of the following modelling software: Flood Modeller/ISIS, TUFLOW; 
  • Proficiency in the use of the following spatial software: ArcGIS and/or QGIS, Map Info; 
  • Strong experience supervising, assisting and teaching junior modellers;
  • Extensive experience writing and reviewing technical reports;
  • Strong experience communicating modelling issues and results to technical and non-technical audiences;
  • Good knowledge of hydromorphology, including experience of a range of river types;
  • Experience of a range of projects including river restoration, NFM, weir removal, and infrastructure-related hydromorphological assessment and design;
  • Sound knowledge of sediment transport processes;
  • Experience of high gradient and low gradient  systems and coarse and fine sediment dynamics;

Desirable:

  • Knowledge and practice of the following modelling software: HEC-RAS, Infoworks ICM.
  • Understanding of hydrology principles and experience with hydrological calculations (Flood Estimation Handbook techniques, flow duration curves etc.)
  • Preferred Qualifications    High quality degree in a relevant field, and ideally a Masters/PhD; and 
  • Membership of a related professional institute, ideally with chartered status.
