Coyle Personnel believe in giving back to the communities we serve, and over the past year, we have made a significant impact through our charitable donations and fundraising efforts. Since January 2024, we have proudly donated a total of £15,442.60 to a range of causes, all thanks to the dedication and involvement of our employees.

We have supported numerous charitable initiatives throughout the year, from running and walking challenges, to climbing, sleepouts, and donating clothes and bric-a-brac to charity shops. We have also raised funds to support local foodbanks, helping to provide food for those in need. In this article, we’ll look back at some highlights from charitable activities.

Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge for Railway Children

A group of our employees took on one of the UK’s most iconic charity challenges to support Railway Children, one of our main charities. The team climbed the Yorkshire Three Peaks, a gruelling 39.2 km circular route that involved climbing three of the highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales: Whernside (736m), Ingleborough (723m), and Pen-y-Ghent (694m).

It took the team nearly 12 hours of continuous effort, but their hard work paid off, raising an incredible £5,000 for the charity. Congratulations to Roger Stewart, Jenna Last, Josh Bromage-Smith, Eric Smith, and Joe Aubrey, for completing such a difficult challenge.

Tough Mudder Challenge for Mind:

One of our Directors, Richard Button, and Manager of our M&E department, Liam Hargate, took on the 2024 edition of the Tough Mudder challenge to raise funds for Mind, another of our key charities. Despite the cuts, bruises, and rope burns (Richard’s ankle burn was especially impressive!), the duo raised over £1,000.

Facing over 20 challenging obstacles spread across 10+ miles of muddy terrain, both completed the course to earn their world-famous orange (or green!) headbands. Richard summed it up perfectly: “It was great, thanks! Although we are covered in cuts and bruises. The rope burn across my ankle is especially impressive. OUCH!!!”

Supporting Pilgrim’s Hospice in Ashford:

Our Ashford office has also been actively involved in charity work, raising nearly £1,000 for Pilgrims Hospice. The team participated in events like the Santa on the Run and the Pilgrims Way Challenge, in addition to donating clothes and household items to the local Pilgrims charity shop. Their dedication to supporting this important cause has made a real difference to the hospice’s work.

Railway Children Sleepout:

Carolyn Davy and Phil Gittins took part in the Railway sleepout – raising £746.25 for the Railway Children charity. The pair selflessly traded the comfort of their warm beds for a difficult night’s sleep, all in support of Railway Children's #BigStationSleepOut.

Phil said, “We tried to replicate how homeless children from across the UK and abroad spend the nights sleeping rough in Railway Stations. Although it was challenging, cold and uncomfortable, we completed the night and even met some of the children that the charity benefits in London, it was an eye-opening experience.”

Donation to The Peter Jones Foundation:

We are also proud to have made a £5,000 donation to the Peter Jones Foundation a charity that helps young people from underserved communities develop the enterprise skills and experiences needed to thrive in the workforce or pursue self-employment. It is an initiative we are excited to support, knowing it will help build a brighter future for the next generation.

Foodbank Donations and Fundraising:

Several of our offices, including Harrow, have been involved in supporting local foodbanks. The Harrow team raised nearly £70 to buy food for their local foodbank’s Christmas shop. This initiative helped provide much-needed supplies to families during the festive season.

Toy Drive for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH):

We also took part in a Toy Drive for Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH), organised by our Director of IT, Gursewak Dusanjh. Employees from various offices contributed toys and gifts for the children at GOSH. The hospital was extremely grateful for our donations, and we are proud to make this an annual event to support the amazing work that GOSH does.

The Thames Path Ultra Challenge:

On Saturday the 14th of September, Coyle Personnel's Chief Financial Officer, Peter Groves, ran 100km along the Thames Path from Putney to Henley, completing the ultra-marathon in 13 hours and 29 minutes. The route ran through Richmond, Hampton Court, Runnymede, and Windsor, along the towpath.

Peter was running for the 'Born Too Soon' charity that supports the NICU at Kingston hospital in London. Through their hard work, and the very generous support of individuals such as Peter who raised over £3,500, they're able to raise funds for vital life saving equipment for babies and support the hospital's premature baby unit.

Bake Sales & Other Charity Events:

Throughout the year, we hosted several bake sales in support of charities like Save the Children and Macmillan Cancer Support. These events not only raised money for important causes but also provided an opportunity for employees to come together, have fun, and get involved in something meaningful.

Coyle Personnel's Continued Charity Efforts:

In addition to our company-wide charity events, many of our employees have supported personal causes close to their hearts. We have raised funds for charities such as Bliss (premature babies), Alzheimer's Society, Weldmar Hospice Care, The Walker Construction Trust, Cancer Research, British Red Cross, and Folkestone Channel Rotary Club among others. It is this personal commitment that really makes a difference.

We are incredibly proud of our employees who have dedicated their time, energy, and resources to support such a wide variety of causes. Their involvement in these charitable events has not only helped raise funds but also raised awareness for important issues. We are excited to continue this tradition and look forward to even more employees getting involved in the future.

Together, we have proven that small efforts, when combined, can make a significant impact. Thank you to everyone who has taken part — let us keep up the great work in the year ahead!
