Through the SVQM, Coyle Personnel has not only demonstrated its social value but also positioned itself as a responsible and ethical leader within the recruitment industry. In this article, we will delve into the significance of the Social Value Quality Mark, Coyle's Social Value Strategy, and the initiatives we are already undertaking to achieve this recognition.


Defining Social Value

The SVQM is a distinguished accreditation designed to help organisations showcase their social impact and value claims genuinely. It was developed to recognise and promote businesses that prioritise ethical practices, community engagement, and sustainable initiatives. The mark is awarded to organisations that exhibit a clear commitment to social responsibility and contribute positively to the communities in which they operate.

At Coyle Personnel, we define social value as: The tangible impact created for society by or through the actions and legacy of an individual or organisation. 

It encompasses the benefits that our business operations bring to society as a whole and the local communities we serve. We firmly believe that success is not solely measured by financial gains but also by the positive impact we create within our society.

Our social value plan focuses on increasing support for small businesses and the local economy, upskilling our workforce to address skill shortages, and providing employment opportunities for those not currently in work or training. By implementing these social value propositions, we not only benefit society, but also foster improved candidate attraction, develop a highly skilled workforce, and create a positive internal environment for our employees.


The Importance of the Social Value Act

The SVQM Level 1 certification reinforces Coyle Personnel's dedication to its values-led business approach. This recognition sets us apart from other recruitment agencies and assures our clients, candidates, and stakeholders that they are partnering with an organisation committed to making a positive impact.

By prioritising social value, we showcase our excellence in three key areas:

  • We go beyond the traditional scope of recruitment by actively seeking candidates who may not otherwise receive the same chances such as ex-offenders and apprentices.
  • We facilitate initiatives that support local communities, champion diversity and inclusion, and promote sustainable practices. By incorporating social value into our operations, we help to create a ripple effect of positive change within society.
  • We strive to understand the unique needs of our clients and candidates, enabling us to provide tailored solutions that foster growth, improve retention, and ultimately contribute to the overall success of both the organisations we work with and the individuals alike.


Our Social Value Strategy

Coyle Personnel has developed a comprehensive social value strategy to address business risks and opportunities through sustainable and inclusive practices. As part of this strategy, we’ve created the following pledges:

  • To provide opportunities to get people into the workplace who are NEET (not in education, employment, or training) or long-term unemployed or a mother returning to work.
  • To support nurses and teachers to join or stay in the profession.
  • To encourage young people to join the rail and construction industry.
  • To support our people with the knowledge and opportunities to make positive health and wellbeing choices.
  • To reduce absolute scope 1 and scope 2 GHG emissions 50% by 2030 from a 2021 base year, and to measure and reduce its scope 3 emissions.
  • To upskill our staff and those employed on contract, giving them a career path, which provides personal satisfaction and financial security.
  • To reduce inequality by strengthening our support of VCSEs both financially and in kind.
  • To put the structure in place so that Coyle Personnel can reach its Social Value pledges and as a team we can collectively be proud of the actions we take to make a lasting change for society.
  • To support initiatives that are close to each of our offices. Engaging employees to raise funds and feel proud to support their local community.
  • To encourage and enable our employees to share their knowledge and expertise about their profession with young people, showing them the possibilities that exist.


Inspiring and Developing Tomorrow’s Workforce

As a member of the 5% Club, Coyle Personnel is dedicated to training, mentoring, and developing trainees and apprentices. Through regional partnerships with local training and employment enterprises, we have employed over 200 trainees and apprentices in the past three years. We are also proud to share that most of our existing staff have successfully completed three comprehensive e-learning courses, and we now require all new hires to undergo the same training. The e-learning curriculum encompasses essential topics such as Introduction to Social Value, responding to the Modern Slavery Act, and Introduction to Climate Change and Carbon.

Furthermore, Coyle Personnel provide opportunities for individuals from diverse backgrounds, ensuring they receive proper training and support to excel in their careers. By investing in the development of our employees, we contributed to their personal growth while simultaneously supporting the overall growth and development of the industry.


Looking Ahead

Receiving the SVQM Level 1 is an important milestone for Coyle Personnel, but it is only the beginning of our journey towards making a lasting social impact. We are proud to announce that our sights are set on achieving the Social Value Level 2 Quality Mark, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to continuous improvement, growth, and innovation.
