In the past 12 months, Coyle Personnel have witnessed a significant increase in the uptake of both charitable and voluntary opportunities across the company. Our employees have played a major role in increasing our overall community engagement and this shift in focus has helped us to not only meet ambitious social and community targets but surpass them.
The team’s enthusiastic participation in fundraising and volunteering initiatives has led to a total of £18,369.82 being contributed to various charitable and community causes between the 1st of June 2024, and the 31st of May 2025. This figure exceeds our KVI.9 target of donating over £10,000 to local communities by a considerable margin, despite a drop in overall employee headcount.
Charitable donations play a vital role in how Coyle Personnel deliver social value. In 2024/25, our employees initiated numerous fundraising initiatives, for example our CEO, Chris Coyle, alongside Steve Coyle, took on the 100k Jurassic Coast Ultra Challenge to raise money for Mind, a leading mental health charity in England and Wales. Together, they raised an incredible £3,771, which when combined with a separate 5km family walk from the Coyle family, brought the total donated to £5,371.
Similarly, our CFO, Peter Groves, completed the Thames Path Ultra Marathon and raised an incredible £3,585 foe the charity ‘Born Too Soon’. Other individual fundraising efforts included Adrianne McKenzie, Accounts Payable Clerk, raising £1,420 for Cancer Research after swimming over 30km and Shima Patel, Accounts Receivable Clerk, generating £1,053.86 in donations for Young Lives vs. Cancer thanks to her Sky Dive.
We were also proud to once again participate in the Big Rail Diversity Challenge, an inspiring event aimed at promoting diversity, inclusion, and teamwork within the rail sector. 10 members of the Coyle Rail team took part in a day of challenges at Newark Showground in Nottingham and the result was a combined £3,600 raised for Women in Rail. As we continue to expand our charitable opportunities, we look forward to supporting more organisations that create equal opportunities for individuals of all backgrounds to thrive and succeed.
Coyle Personnel’s charitable contributions would not have been possible without the numerous uptakes we had for volunteering opportunities with community-led organisations. The Whitechapel Mission in London has been serving the homeless and marginalised since 1876 and wouldn’t be able to function without the generosity of its volunteers. In April, nine members of the team gave up time to help make serve breakfast to the homeless community, helping to generate over £900 worth of social value.
Our employees have also dedicated their time and skills to help promote local skills and employment opportunities. In line with our social value KVI.10, Coyle Personnel are thrilled to have delivered a total of 145.5 hours of volunteering between the 1st of June 2024 and the 31st of May 2025. This figure more than doubles our count from the previous year and reinforces a shift in our company culture towards increased community engagement.
Coyle Personnel employees have actively suggested and lead new community activities, such as partnering with the Social Mobility Business Partnership to host and deliver an Insight Day for young students in our Broadgate head office. The initiative was aimed at giving students from less-privileged backgrounds the opportunity to gain valuable professional insights and learn about potential career paths. Six members of staff participated in presentations on the day, discussing areas of the business such as compliance, marketing, recruitment, and operations. We look forward to co-designing more of these initiatives with other stakeholders and communities.
Coyle Personnel also offered several work experience opportunities in 2024/25, allowing school students the opportunity to learn first-hand skills on the job in both the rail and medical industry. For example, the Coyle Rail team were delighted to welcome Alfie Mahon, a first-year business studies student, into the office as he looked to gain a greater understanding of the recruitment industry.
We also ventured outside of the office to promote local employment opportunities. Phil Gittens and Zara Woodman, both presented at the Redhill College in Surrey, talking to the students and showcasing the benefits of working in the rail industry. Terry Hall led similar workshops in partnership with Reed Restart to help long-term unemployed individuals learn skills that will assist them in getting back into the construction industry.
We are immensely proud of all employees for their increased uptake in charitable and volunteering opportunities. Their benevolence and selflessness has allowed Coyle Personnel to deliver real tangible benefits to our local community, whether that be through an increase in charitable donations, or by supporting the younger generation in their search for employment.
Community and charity work has become a fundamental part of who we are. By empowering our employees to lead these efforts, we have created a shared purpose that will continue to drive our social value journey forward. Our achievements over the past 12 months prove that we are moving in the right direction and we look forward to building on this in the years to come.
