During the winter months, the railway industry typically presents some unique challenges, but at Coyle Rail, we remain dedicated to exceeding the expectations of our clients and workforce. Throughout the course of December, January, and February, our team has been out in force, braving the elements to connect with our valued workers and witness firsthand the crucial projects they are delivering.

From the Siemens project in Crewe, to our S&T team working on Project Brunel, Coyle Rail’s ‘Orange Army’ have been working non-stop to deliver some of the UK’s most important rail projects. In this article, we provide a brief overview on some of our recent site visits and the progress our teams are making both on and off the tracks.

Blue Collar North: Supporting Long-Term Success and Loyal Workers

Our winter site visits began with Jaimie Butel-Foley's journey to Crewe, where our team has been delivering exceptional work on a Siemens project for over a year. It was a pleasure to witness the seamless operation and dedication of Rod, recently promoted to team leader, and his experienced crew. Their commitment to major projects and the consistent positive feedback they receive are a testament to their professionalism.

Phil Cambridge and Ricky's visit to Driffield on a Network Rail job also exemplified our commitment to worker welfare. We've been providing critical safety support, with Neil serving as an ES and Ricky as a compound cleaner. This visit was particularly meaningful as it allowed us to support Neil in his return to work following a heart attack, demonstrating our genuine care for our team.

Frank Murphy: Project Brunel and TRU West – Progress and Partnership

February saw Frank Murphy venturing out to visit our S&T team working with Colas Rail on the prestigious Project Brunel. The team is currently engaged in the complex task of upgrading six ends of points at Acton East, transitioning from RCPLs to HPSS Mk2s, along with associated LOC modifications and Axle Counter adjustments. We extend our sincere gratitude to Chris Daly of Colas Rail for facilitating this visit and acknowledge the exceptional professionalism and dedication of Greg Dykes, Rob Warwick, Bogdan Zapratan, Grant Haviland, and KAT Khan. Their work on Project Brunel, which also includes IRJ Recoveries, Axle Counter resilience, and surveying poor performing points, is vital to the project's success.

Frank also had the opportunity to spend time with our staff supporting Siemens Mobility on the TRU West Project. This visit highlighted the dynamic blend of experienced IRSE licensed Team Leaders & Installers mentoring installation trainees, fostering skill development and a strong safety culture. We thank Siemens for their collaboration and our staff for their continued dedication. The TRU West project, encompassing multiple work packages along the Manchester Victoria to Leeds line, is crucial for improving capacity, increasing line speed, and preparing the line for future electrification, including the significant EiS G infrastructure upgrades in the Huddersfield to Ravensthorpe area.

Coyle Signalling & Telecoms: Enhancing Skills and Boosting Morale in Liphook

Sam Sharples kicked off the month of February with a visit to our installation teams working night shifts on the Farncombe to Petersfield (F2P) project for Alstom. The focus was on a Small Tools refresher course, led by trainer Phill Keys, emphasising underpinning knowledge and safety conversations. It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with our core staff, who are delivering outstanding work. The smiles that accompanied the M&S goodie bags were a testament to the appreciation we hold for their efforts.

The above site visits provide just a few examples of Coyle Rail's commitment to staying connected with our workforce and clients. By venturing out into the field, we gain invaluable insights, provide essential support, and express our sincere appreciation for the hard work that drives our success. We are immensely proud of our team's dedication and look forward to continuing to build strong relationships and deliver exceptional results throughout the year.
