Throughout the course of 2024, Coyle Personnel's employees contributed greatly towards the company's social value goals and ambitions. There has been some incredible involvement from different teams across various activities – from volunteering and charity events, to training even more mental health first aiders. We're extremely excited to see what's in store for 2025 and remain confident that we'll continue to surpass our social value objectives.

One individual that made a significant impact during the latter part of last year was Nick Markwell, Manager at Coyle Rail. Thanks to his tremendous efforts, we're thrilled to announce Nick as our Champion of Social Value for winter.

East Surrey College Visits:

Over the past twelve months, Nick has made regular visits to the East Surrey College in Redhill to talk to the students and offer presentations on the benefits of working in the rail industry. In that time, we've helped four students who have completed their studies to smoothly transition into full-time roles. From January to May 2024, Coyle Rail have helped to upskill 961 rail workers at an overall cost of £186,000.

In addition to this, we've helped 9 young individuals aged between 16-25 to successfully complete their initial PTS training, qualifying them to work in the rail industry as new entrants. Nick's work in helping to encourage young people to join the rail industry coincides perfectly with Coyle Personnel's efforts to provide training to 16-25-year-olds, giving them the skills they need to work on railway sites, with the guarantee of consistent work.

Mental Health Ambassador:

Nick has also played a key role in encouraging the open discussion of positive mental health and wellbeing across our offices. On World Mental Health Day, Nick supported our Social Value Lead, Zara Woodman, in running a successful Tea & Talk session where various teams sat down to discuss the things that affect their own mental health, whether that be positively, or negatively.

In 2024, Coyle Personnel made a real effort to ensure that every office had at least one male and one female who were qualified mental health first aiders. Nick was voted for by his colleagues for the Rail Manager of the Year award at the 2024 Rail Staff Awards due to his outstanding leadership skills and his efforts to go the extra mile for his team. His commitment to all of his staff members is highly commendable and eptimoises our social value efforts to health & wellbeing.

Santas on the Run:

On the 15th of December, Nick joined Andrew Morris in Herne Bay's 2024 Santas on the Run event. Running for the Pilgrims Hospices charity, the pair joined hundreds of other runners and dressed up as Santa Claus to partake in the annual event. Despite it being very chilly down by the sea, Nick and Andrew were able to raise over £380 for the charity which help people facing incurable illness to live well in every moment.

The Pilgrim's Hospice is the chosen charity of our Ashford office and so by partaking in the event, Nick was able to raise funds and feel proud to support his local community. This aligns perfectly with Coyle Personnel's social value objective to support charitable initiatives that are close to each of our offices.

Celebrating Nick's Social Value Efforts

Nick Markwell's dedication to encouraging young people to join the rail industry and charitable contributions make him a deserving recipient of the Winter Champion of Social Value Award. His efforts have not only contributed to Coyle Personnel's social value goals but also the wider local community that we as an organisation so greatly value. Nick's leadership and commitment serve as an example to his colleagues and set a precedent for the year ahead!
