π¨ Network Communications Architect – Rail Infrastructure
We’re looking for a Network Comms Architect to join a growing rail infrastructure team, supporting the design and delivery of network solutions across a range of projects.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working across the full lifecycle — taking standard architectures and adapting them to meet project-specific needs around connectivity, performance, and cybersecurity.

What you’ll be doing:
- Developing and adapting network designs for project delivery
- Producing high-level and detailed designs, including architecture diagrams and specifications
- Designing IP addressing and subnetting schemes
- Creating cable schematics and resilience/diversity plans
- Supporting configuration, testing, and integration of network systems
- Getting involved in Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and on-site build/testing
- Working closely with telecoms specialists and project teams to align designs with delivery needs
- Monitoring progress of design work and making sure timelines are met
- Reviewing technical outputs and supporting tender evaluations where required
- Making sure designs meet safety, quality, and industry standards
What we’re looking for:
- Degree qualified (or equivalent experience) in engineering or a relevant technical field
- Strong experience with network communication systems, especially LAN/WAN and network security
- Good understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle
- Experience working to industry safety and quality standards
- Strong communication skills — able to explain technical concepts clearly
- Able to manage workloads and deliver to tight timescales
- Cisco certification (CCNA or above) or equivalent hands-on experience
Nice to have:
- Experience in rail telecoms or operational railway systems
- Knowledge of technologies like SDN, virtualisation, data centres, or network automation
- Chartered status or working towards it
- IRSE licence or familiarity with rail standards
