Job Description

🚨 Safety Assurance Engineer – ETCS On-Board (Rail)

We’re looking for a Safety Assurance Engineer to support a UK ETCS on-board retrofit project, working closely with delivery teams, assessors, and technical authorities to make sure systems are safe, compliant, and ready for operation.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in cutting-edge in-cab signalling technology, playing a key role across design, testing, approval, and commissioning stages.

πŸ’Ό Role: Safety Assurance Engineer
πŸ“ Location: UK (hybrid – mix of remote and office)
πŸ“… Type: Full-time / Contract (depending on project)

What you’ll be doing:

  • Producing and managing key safety documentation (Safety Management Plan, Hazard Records, FMECA, Safety Cases, etc.)
  • Supporting the approval process, including obtaining APIS for train classes
  • Working closely with assessors (AsBo, ISA) and technical authorities
  • Supporting delivery teams through design, testing, commissioning, and first-in-class deployment
  • Contributing to technical files and ensuring all safety evidence is in place
  • Reviewing compliance reports, test results, and assurance outputs
  • Supporting activities before and after commissioning, including track testing

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience with train-borne systems, ideally ETCS, CBTC or similar signalling systems
  • Background in safety assurance and certification within rail or a similar industry
  • Experience working with assurance bodies (AsBo, ISA)
  • Understanding of CENELEC standards and CSM-RA
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work with multiple stakeholders
  • Someone proactive, reliable, and comfortable working in a collaborative team

Nice to have:

  • Experience with APIS or RIS-2700-RST processes
  • Background working in subcontractor or large project environments
  • Broader knowledge of railway systems and technologies

This is a key role in helping deliver safe, compliant signalling systems — with real impact on how modern rail networks operate.
